Welcome to the Douglas County Bar Association
The Douglas County Bar Association is a nonprofit corporation whose members are lawyers residing in Douglas County, Kansas. The association provides opportunities for its members to exchange ideas and share information about the practice of law, to encourage professionalism, integrity and courtesy among its members, and to exhibit responsibility and leadership in the community. Through its activities the DCBA strives to foster community respect for the legal profession, as well as awareness of the ideals and principles embodied in our federal and state Constitutions and common law, and understanding of the legal system and the administration of justice.
Membership in the association affords numerous opportunities for attorneys to network and build professional relationships, as well as opportunities to socialize with other members of the bar. By joining one or more of the DCBA's active groups or committees, attorneys can help each other become more effective advocates.
The DCBA Winter Party is Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Maceli's. Details to be announced as they become available. There will be assorted heavy hors d’oeuvres and a hosted bar. Music will be provided by the Free State High School Orchastra Ensemble. The cost is $20.00 per person.
Note: The December 3 monthly social is cancelled and replaced by the party.
The Kansas Supreme Court has launched its eCourt project, which will focus on merging electronic document filing with a centralized case management system. More than half of the state's judicial districts use electronic filing and the 7th judicial district in Douglas County requires it. Electronic filing in the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals will be mandatory starting November 2.
Beginning September 11, 2015, the Kansas Supreme Court and Court of Appeals will make unpublished opinions available online, making it possible for the first time for the public to access them using the Internet.
